Kansas City Chiefs: Final grades for 2020 NFL Draft
By Shade Piper
ROUND THREE, PICK 32 (96TH OVERALL)
I love this pick for the Chiefs. No, they don’t really have a need at tackle this year, but he can definitely be a future starter than and maybe even a short-term solution at guard. He does have some concerns with his hip, but getting Niang’s value at the end of the third round makes for a very good selection.
ROUND FOUR, PICK 32 (132ND OVERALL)
Don’t get me wrong, I am very intrigued by L’Jarius Sneed because he is a freak athlete. He tested out in at least the 95th percentile in the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, and10 yard split at the combine and is very versatile starting at both safety and corner in college.
The reason why he gets a C- is because while he may have a higher ceiling than a lot of the players available, he may not have even been the best player available from his own college team (Amik Robertson who went one pick later to the division rival Las Vegas Raiders). Sneed should be a fun prospect, but it felt like a reach at pick 132.
ROUND FIVE, PICK 32 (177TH OVERALL)
I’m going to be honest – When the scroll at the bottom of the screen listed Mike Danna of Michigan, I had to Google him because I had no idea who he was. Unless you’re a Michigan fan, then let’s be honest you more than likely did the same thing. This is a little bit of a reach for a guy who probably could’ve gone undrafted.
Veach obviously likes this kid because he took him with the Chiefs’ “last” pick, so he didn’t have to risk him being drafted late or going somewhere else as an undrafted free agent. You have probably started to notice a pattern here, as the Chiefs were obviously prioritizing athletes this draft.
Danna is no exception. He ran a 4.77 40 at 262 pounds and has a reported 45 inch vertical.
He gets a D- because although I am not doubting Veach, it at least seems that there were much better prospects available. However, I am excited to see this kid develop in KC.
