The first player from the 2019 Kansas football team is off the board in the 2020 NFL Draft and to the surprise of no one, it’s Hakeem Adeniji, who was taken with the first pick in the sixth round by the Bengals.

When looking at the members of the Kansas football team who could hear their name called in the 2020 NFL Draft, offensive lineman Hakeem Adeniji was the most likely to get drafted. Adeniji was a tremendous talent along the o-line for four years in Lawrence and is now headed to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Adeniji played tackle for the Jayhawks, but moving to the guard position is probably best for him in the NFL. He found a good fit with the Bengals too, as they had the league worst record last year, winning just two games, and that means they’re shoring up positions of need everywhere.

Offensive line was certainly one of them, especially as they look to protect their shiny new franchise quarterback Joe Burrow. The Bengals might not need Adeniji immediately, but he could be a rotational option along the offensive line and could also fill in for injured players or those who might struggle a bit.

With Adeniji off to Cincinnati, the Jayhawks might not have another player get drafted. Azur Kamara (EDGE) could hear his name called, but if not, he’ll definitely be an undrafted free agent option.

It’s always nice to see Kansas Jayhawks get drafted why NFL teams and we’ve seen many go on to have prosperous careers, so hopefully Hakeem Adeniji falls into that category. The Bengals were a bad team last year, but they need help just about everywhere and the Jayhawk guard will have a chance to prove himself in Cincinnati.

Here’s to hoping Hakeem Adeniji is able to get a starting job along the offensive line and be the next great NFL Jayhawk!
