KC Chiefs news is all about how the Kansas City Chiefs found their next running back of the future in the 2020 NFL Draft in the form of Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Let’s run it back!

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl this past season and were able to retain all but two of their starters from that Super Bowl winning roster. That put them in a position where they truly could draft who they thought was the best available player with the final pick of the first round.

In this case, that was Clyde Edwards-Helaire of the National Champion LSU Tigers. The newest Chief rushed for 1,414 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2019 while also racking up over 400 yards in the receiving game off of 55 receptions.

The Chiefs run game picked it up in the playoffs, but throughout the course of the regular season, it was very inconsistent. Edwards-Helaire is someone who can immediately step in and add explosiveness to this offense and isn’t that what Chiefs fans should be clamoring for in 2020 and beyond?

Sure, there were other needs to address here, but the Chiefs went with someone who can be a day one contributor and their offense now has that added element of the run game. Edwards-Helaire is going to be a blast to watch in this offense.

"While this pick might have been a bit surprising, Edwards-Helaire is going to make this Chiefs offense damn near unstoppable. He’s coming off a National Championship while the Chiefs are coming off a Super Bowl and that makes them a match made in heaven."

Drafting a running back in the first round isn’t always a move that fans like, but the Kansas City Chiefs needed to add to their backfield. Damien Williams was injured in 2019 and also experienced a lot of inconsistencies when healthy.

With Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the backfield, there’s now an explosive talent back there who can give the Chiefs their run game back after it’s gone missing the past year. How can anyone not like the Chiefs’ offense getting better?
