Los Angeles Chargers: Quarterback

It seems that every year, the Chargers are picked as the offseason winner of the AFC West, and sometimes as dark horse Super Bowl contenders. Every year, they fall short of those lofty ecpectations, and now they are in a transition period as Hall of Really Good quarterback Philip Rivers is now suiting up for the Indianapolis Colts. The thing is, the Chargers may be one player away from actually earning that level of trust.

The Chargers have an insane collection of young talent. Keenan Allen, Hunter Henry, Austin Eckler and Mike Williams make up a skill group that can do some serious damage. On the defensive side of the ball, Joey Bosa, Derwin James, Casey Heyward, Desmond King, and the newly signed Chris Harris Jr. can make life hell for any quarterback, inlcuding Patrick Mahomes.

Statistically, Mahomes had two of his worst games last year against the Chargers. The Chiefs won in Mexico City because Philip Rivers was giving out interceptions like candy on Halloween.

That brings us to where the Chargers should go in the first round of the draft, and that is quarterback. As it stands now, the Chargers are poised to get one of Justin Herbert or Tua Tagovailoa. Both are considered to be good quarterback prospects, and when facing a Mahomes led Chiefs team, you have to be able to score.

The Chargers may be most ready talent wise  to challenge the Chiefs. If the team goes quarterback early in round one, they would be able to sit him for a year behind established veteran Tyrod Taylor and potentially take over a loaded roster in his sophomore season. Sound Familiar?
