DAY TWO PROSPECTS

If the Kansas City Chiefs either trade out of round one or don’t take a running back, they should have at least two picks to work with on Day 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft. Hopefully they’ll add another pick, but if they don’t, they’ll hold the 63rd and 96th picks. Maybe they’ll use one of them to draft one of these running back prospects.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire is obviously the biggest name of this bunch, hailing from the National Champion LSU Tigers. He could be someone who gets drafted in the first round, but it’s highly unlikely that he goes before all three of the players on the previous slide. It’s even more unlikely that those three guys all go in round one.

Edwards-Helaire has the best chance of those four at being available at pick 63 and he’d be a dream addition to the Chiefs backfield. The Tigers running back totaled 1,414 yards, 16 rushing touchdowns, 453 receiving yards, and a receiving touchdown in his final year with LSU.

Edwards-Helaire’s ability to be used as a pass catcher makes him a very intriguing prospect for Andy Reid who loves to use his running backs in a number of ways. This could be a match made in heaven for the Chiefs offense, who is still looking for that spark plug at the running back spot.

KC could also look at Zack Moss, who had 1,000 yard rushing seasons in three of his four seasons at Utah. Last season saw Moss rush for 1,416 yards and 15 touchdowns while also tallying 388 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He’d be another versatile weapon the Chiefs could immediately plug into their back field.

The other Day 2 prospect to look at would be another PAC-12 back: Eno Benjamin of Arizona State. Benjamin had back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons for the Sun Devils including double digit rushing touchdowns in both of those seasons. He’s another skilled pass catcher, grabbing 42 catches for 347 yards and two touchdowns.

Drafting a running back on Day 2 seems like more of a Chiefs move than taking one in the first round, but who would they go with? Hopefully it’s one of these players.
