Here is some big Kansas City Chiefs news – Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez posted a video where he said he wanted to make a comeback.

Maybe he was bored. Maybe he was just having fun. Maybe, when Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez said he wanted to come back and play this year for the Kansas City Chiefs, he was just pulling everyone’s leg.

On Tuesday, Gonzalez posted a video on Twitter showing him working out. He mentioned Rob Gronkowski coming back and playing with Tampa Bay next year and he said, “Hey, me too, baby! Kansas City Chiefs!”

He also went on to talk about double tight end sets and winning back-to-back Super Bowls. Check it out!

Is it possible for Tony Gonzalez to make a comeback with the Kansas City Chiefs?

First things first. Tony G. 44 years old. He hasn’t played since catching 83 balls for the Falcons in 2013. Surely, this means he was just kidding, folks.

But what if he wasn’t?

He was showing no signs of slowing down when he retired at the age of 37. He had to be beaten up. Players don’t play at a high level for 17 years in the NFL without some permanent damage. Would it even be safe for him to play again after so long? He had to be joking, right?

But what if he wasn’t?

What would it look like to split Sammy Watkins wide to one side and Mercole Hardman wide to the other, with Travis Kelce and Tony Gonzalez at tight end, and Tyreek Hill in motion out of the backfield?

Who are defenses going to worry about the least? The 44-year old tight end, that’s who. Gonzalez hasn’t forgotten how to catch or hang onto the ball. Remember, this is a player who fumbled just one time in his last 14 years as a player. That is a skill set forever.

In a real-world scenario, Gonzalez may only play 5-10 snaps a game, but they could be valuable snaps, especially if he proves he has retained some of his former greatness. If the Chiefs could control his exposure to punishment, there is a possibility it could work.

For Gonzalez, who never played in a Super Bowl, let alone win one, this scenario has to be very attractive. He could join the Super Bowl champs and play with a phenomenal MVP quarterback and future Hall of Fame coach. In 17 years, Gonzalez’s teams only won one playoff game. For a player as competitive as Gonzalez is, you know that still hurts.

Is this realistic? Probably not? Was he serious? Maybe, but doubtful? Is it possible? Maybe, just maybe? And wouldn’t that be exciting as hell? You bet it would!

dark. Next. Chiefs all-time receiving leaders

This is a lot of fun to think about. It would be like a bonus in life to see Tony Gonzalez playing for the Kansas City Chiefs again. His video was probably all in fun, or was it?
