KC Chiefs landing Jeff Gladney at pick 32 would be dream come true
As a result of winning the Super Bowl, the KC Chiefs hold the 32nd pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. While there’s some speculation they’ll trade out of the first round, if they stayed put and drafted Jeff Gladney, fans would be elated.
No matter what year it is, the Kansas City Chiefs always seem to have a need at the cornerback position and that’s no different this time around. The Chiefs aren’t as desperate at the position these days after re-signing Bashaud Breeland, but the more depth at cornerback the better, as the NFL is a very pass-happy league these days.
While the top cornerback prospects like Jeffrey Okudah and C.J. Henderson will be long gone by the time the Chiefs are on the clock, there are still plenty of other talented prospects KC could add and a dream addition would TCU’s Jeff Gladney.
Peter King mocked Gladney to the Chiefs in his latest mock draft and had this to say,
"Anyhoo, the Chiefs’ biggest position of need right now is corner, and Gladney is a competitive and tough player who would fit in Steve Spagnuolo’s scheme."
He had a few other positions the Chiefs could target in the first round, but he settled on corner being one of their biggest needs and I would agree. Gladney would be an immediate starter and would give this secondary a star for at least four years, if not longer.
Something to keep in mind with Gladney is that he played in the “defense is optional” Big 12 and still managed to hold his own against some of the most explosive offenses in college football. The NFL is a different animal obviously, but it’s still worth noting.
I don’t see Gladney falling this far in the draft, but if he did, pairing him with Breeland, Charvarius Ward, and Rashad Fenton would give Steve Spagnuolo a tremendous cornerback corp to work with in 2020 and maybe beyond.
With Breeland only signed for 2020, it’d be a wise move to draft at least one corner this year and early on at that. Jeff Gladney could immediately step in and make his presence known with a defense that finished the season on the highest of notes.
It’ll be interesting to see what the KC Chiefs decide to do with their first round pick in 2020. Will they stay put and take someone or will they trade out of the first round all together and add selections?
Would you be excited to see Kansas City draft Jeff Gladney?
