Targets for Round Three (Pick 96)

This is the running back sweet spot round.

My players might get a little redundant because of this, but there is just so much value at the linebacker position here that this is where the Chiefs have to target a linebacker. It’s hard to tell which of these linebackers will make it to 96, but I feel pretty comfortable saying that at least two of the following linebacker options will be there at 96.

1. Logan Wilson, LB Wyoming

Wilson is another prospect that I have admittedly been sleeping on a little, but I have finally given in and am starting to get pretty high on this guy. Wilson is a guy who has the size that Spagnuolo loves while not sacrificing the coverage abilities that the Chiefs desperately need. Wilson is a day one starter for the Chiefs and if he makes it to 96, he almost has to be the pick.

2. Akeem Davis-Gaither, LB Appalachian State

I like Davis-Gaither’s upside as a coverage linebacker better than Wilson’s, but he is also probably not as complete of a player and he is definitely not the typical Spagnuolo-build. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see him in a Chiefs uniform, but it would probably take a lot of persuading on Veach’s part to get Coach Spagnuolo on board.

3. Willie Gay, LB Mississippi State

As mentioned in the big board version two, Gay is what I like to call the Kenneth Murray of round three. He’s going to give you a linebacker with similar traits as Murray has, but obviously with less upside and not as likely to be an immediate impact player. However, he is a great value in the third round.

4. Amik Robertson, CB Louisiana Tech

Robertson is a player that I am absolutely in love with. He plays with the physicality and attitude that would put him in good favor with Tyrann Mathieu and Frank Clark in a heartbeat. He has elite ball skills and isn’t afraid to hand out a big hit.

The one negative on Amik is his size, so this is a guy that the Chiefs probably don’t want to draft if they take Winfield in round two, but if they are still looking for a corner instead of linebacker come round three, I will be praying for Robertson. He also may have the most fun highlight film of any corner in this draft, so enjoy (apologies for the language).

5. Netane Muti, G Fresno State

Muti is a huge boom or bust risk, but it is a risk Veach might be willing to live with if he makes it to 96. Muti has had a number of injuries in his college career and that is worrisome for NFL franchises, but if the Chiefs get this man healthy, they’re getting best guard in the draft upside in round three.
