Kansas City Chiefs: 2020 NFL Draft Big Board 3.0
By Shade Piper
Targets for Round Two
I am going to do the round two targets a little differently this time around. There has been a lot of talk of the Chiefs trading out of round one to grab some additional picks, so for the round two targets we are going to look at three trade back targets for round two and three targets for pick 63.
Three Early Round Two Trade Back Targets
1. Damon Arnette, CB Ohio State
As mentioned with Jaylon Johnson above, Arnette is a player who I am way higher on than most. He is a big-time sleeper in the draft.
In the first Chiefs Draft Big Board article, I had him as a round one target and in version two I had him as a round two target while in this big board he settles in the middle as a trade back target.
Arnette is a guy who will likely last longer than Johnson, but probably won’t make it to 63, making him a perfect target if Veach decides to trade back. Arnette has been overshadowed by Jeffrey Okudah, but has legit CB1 upside. The Chiefs still need some depth at corner and Arnette could be a guy who comes in and competes for the third cornerback spot in year one.
2. Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB LSU
I am not a fan of drafting a running back this early, but with virtually everyone (outside of Chiefs Twitter) seeming to think the Chiefs will draft a running back, I felt obligated to include one.
If the Chiefs do go running back early, this is the guy it should be. Edwards-Helaire can do it all and is very strong in the passing game, which will fit in great with the Chiefs offense. Reid expects a lot out of his running backs in the passing game and Edwards-Helaire should be able to jump right into that role.
3. Chase Claypool, WR Notre Dame
Do the Chiefs need a wide receiver? No – at least not this season – but if they trade back and grab an extra pick or two, I would be fine with taking one. Why Chase Claypool isn’t a consensus first-rounder right now, I still don’t understand.
Even if not at a big position of need, if the Chiefs trade back and find him available in the early to mid-second round, they should take Claypool.. At 6’4″ he would add a big-bodied receiver that the Chiefs currently lack without losing the speed they love in their offense (4.42 40-time).
Claypool is a physical freak and could be a star in the NFL and Chiefs Kingdom should be extremely excited if this is the pick.
Honorable Mentions: Isaiah Wilson, OT Georgia; Brandon Ayiuk, WR Arizona State
Targets for Round Two Pick 63
1. Antoine Winfield Jr. S Minnesota
Another safety, which again, is not a huge need, but see above. I love the versatility of being able to continue the three safety units. Could you imagine having two honey badgers running around in the middle of the Chiefs defense?
Yeah, that’s two pretty small guys back there, but it’s also two very versatile safeties who could allow Spags to disguise coverages and lock down the middle of the field. Winfield is a spitting image of Mathieu just younger and more athletic. If Mathieu was able to take Winfield under his wing and turn him into his clone on the field, the secondary would be very scary.
2. Robert Hunt, G/T Louisiana-Lafayette
Hunt is a very big human standing at 6’5 and 323 pounds. Despite his abnormally large build, he is a pretty athletic lineman. He is not a perfect prospect whatsoever and will need to improve his technique, but he has the potential to be the best guard in this draft and could even have the upside to play tackle if needed down the road.
3. Bryce Hall, CB Virginia
This has been my guy from the jump and has made it into all three of the big boards now, so I won’t go into depth on him. All I will say is Thornhill-Hall 2020! Make it happen Veach! (See version one and two of the Chiefs Draft Big Board for a more in-depth look at Hall)
Honorable Mentions: Zack Moss, RB Utah; Solomon Kindley, G Georgia
