2020 NFL Draft: KC Kingdom Mock Draft

Round 1: Pick 29 – Tennessee Titans (Kole Berrey)

player. 35. . Offensive Tackle. Tennessee Titans. Josh Jones. 29

The Titans may be the biggest wildcard in the draft. Their roster is stacked with quality players, so they could go in a million different directions here. They are truly in best player available territory, so grabbing a potential franchise tackle at the back end of the first round is what I opted to go for. Josh Jones is that franchise tackle.

Staff Reaction: This is an intriging pick, as Jones is coming off the board before the more heralded USC product Austin Jackson. Jones will be asked to replace departed right tackle Jack Conklin. The run heavy offense needs the tackle, so the position makes sense. Consensus is building for a tackle in this spot. – John McCarty

Round 1: Pick 30 – Green Bay Packers (Cullen Jekel)

Green Bay Packers. Denzel Mims. 30. player. 49. . Wide Receiver

The Packers have some decisions to make here. Does the front office opt for an offensive tackle to replace the departed Bryan Bulaga? Or go for help along the defensive line by picking Wisconsin Badger pass-rusher Zack Baun? Or if they opt for a wide receiver – which seems the likeliest outcome – which one: Baylor’s Denzel Mims, TCU’s Jalen Reagor, or Clemson’s Tee Higgins?

In the end, the Packers go with Mims, a quick 6’3″, 207-pounder who caught 66 passes for over 1,000 yards in his redshirt junior year in Waco. Of those 66 receptions, a dozen went for scores. Impressive. The moody Aaron Rodgers is mildly appeased.

Staff Reaction: With how stacked this year’s receiver class is, the Packers can stand to take just about anyone with this pick and be thrilled. They could also go with a tight end at pick number 30, but Mims is a day one starter in Green Bay. – Leigh Oleszczak

Round 1: Pick 31 – San Francisco 49ers (John McCarty)

31. player. 42. . Quarterback. San Francisco 49ers. Jordan Love

In reality, the 49ers are likely not drafting here (they’re probably going to trade down) and Jordan Love is long gone. Jimmy Garoppolo was exposed as a different version of Alex Smith this past season, especially in the Super Bowl, so if the stars align as such, this pick has to happen. Common sense prevails.

Staff Reaction: I don’t know what to think of this pick. If Love turns into a franchise quarterback down the line, then no one will question it. The 49ers are fresh off a Super Bowl defeat where they led by ten points in the fourth quarter. I would have liked to see an instant contributor for the offense here to help their current quarterback. Instead, they drafted his future successor. – Kole Berrey

Round 1: Pick 32 – Kansas City Chiefs (Leigh Oleszczak)

32. player. 124. . EDGE. Kansas City Chiefs. Zack Baun

Realistically the Kansas City Chiefs probably trade out of the first round, but there were rules with this mock draft that prevented that from happening. So, the Chiefs are locked in here at pick 32 and add Zack Baun out of Wisconsin to help them keep their defense in tip top shape. He’d be a great addition to a defense that turned things around and played a key role in the Chiefs winning Super Bowl LIV.

Staff Reaction: The Chiefs have plenty of options here, from drafting cornerbacks Damon Arnette or A.J. Terrell to bolstering its wide receiving corps or stable of running backs. Baun, who had 12.5 sacks with the Badgers last season, is a great selection, for 2020 and beyond. – Cullen Jekel
