2020 NFL Draft: KC Kingdom Mock Draft

Round 1: Pick 17 – Dallas Cowboys (John McCarty)

. Cornerback. Dallas Cowboys. Trevon Diggs. 17. player. 123

There are a few picks that are beginning to feel given, and there is a sense of Trevon Diggs to the Cowboys being one of those. The loss along the defensive front would have made Javon Kinlaw an excellent pick, but with Kinlaw off the board, Diggs helps replace Byron Jones on the outside.

Staff Reaction: The Cowboys could have gone in a few different directions here and cornerback was one of those directions after they lost Byron Jones to the Dolphins this offseason. Replacing Travis Frederick at center would have been smart, but the Cowboys might have had to reach if they did so. Solid choice here. – Leigh Oleszczak

Round 1: Pick 18 – Miami Dolphins (Via Pittsburgh) (Kole Berrey)

59. . Offensive Tackle. Miami Dolphins. Mekhi Becton. 18. player

The Dolphins selected Tua Tagovailoa with their first selection to be the face of their franchise. It only seems fitting that they get him a body guard with their next pick. The Dolphins have a hole at left tackle after trading away Laremy Tunsil last season, so they fill it here with Mekhi Becton.

Staff Reaction: After drafting their quarterback of the future at five, the Dolphins grab him some protection with their second of three first-round picks. Solid idea, and Louisville’s Becton is the best remaining tackle. So far, so good for the Dolphins in this draft. – Cullen Jekel

Round 1: Pick 19 – Las Vegas Raiders (Via Chicago) (Cullen)

player. 28. . Cornerback. Las Vegas Raiders. Kristian Fulton. 19

The fact that Utah State quarterback Jordan Love is still available here makes this an intriguing choice, but still – as stated when discussing CeeDee Lamb – it seems as that the Raiders are set on Carr and Mariota for the upcoming season. Plus, this team still has too many other holes to fill.

To compete in the AFC West, against teams like the Kansas City Chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes, and – to a lesser extent, the Denver Broncos with budding Drew Lock – the Raiders need help in the secondary. LSU’s Kristian Fulton is a big-bodied, talented cover-man who will pair well with last year’s second-round pick Trayvon Mullen.

Staff Reaction: Somewhat surprising, as I’d expected Gladney here though the Raiders could use a corner and Fulton is no slouch.  Fulton will pair with recent draft pick Trayvon Mullen to provide the Raiders with a young pair of athletic corners in Sin City.  – John McCarty

Round 1: Pick 20 – Jacksonville Jaguars (Via LA Rams) (Leigh Oleszczak)

20. player. 52. . Cornerback. Jacksonville Jaguars. Jeff Gladney

The Jaguars got this pick from the Rams in exchange for Jalen Ramsey, so it only made sense for them to spend it on a cornerback who can replace him. Jacksonville had their sights set on Kristian Fulton with pick number 20, but he went off the board right before they were on the clock. Instead, they had to “settle” on Jeff Gladney, who will be a tremendous option in their secondary.

Staff Reaction: This was a smart pick by the Jaguars. It obviously fills a need in the secondary after the Jaguars lost Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye in the same year. Gladney was the best corner remaining. Xavier McKinney was still on the board as well at safety, but any secondary pick for Jacksonville was a smart one. Gladney starts day one for them. – Kole Berrey
