2020 NFL Draft: KC Kingdom Mock Draft

Round 1: Pick 5 – Miami Dolphins (Kole Berrey)

59. . Quarterback. Miami Dolphins. Tua Tagovailoa. 5. player

This pick seems like a no-brainer for a franchise still basking in the glory days of Dan Marino. While there is smoke right now saying that the Dolphins value Justin Herbert over Jordan Love, I decided to stick with Tua in this spot. He is the second best quarterback in this class, and his medicals surrounding his hip were overwhelmingly positive, so I went with him here at number five.

Staff Reaction: If the Dolphins truly want Tagovailoa, they’re taking a risk by not trading up for him. But if he’s there at number five, and they feel comfortable with his progression from injury, they’d be landing a potential franchise quarterback for the next decade to take them to the top of the AFC East–and keep them there. – Cullen Jekel

Round 1: Pick 6 – Los Angeles Chargers (John McCarty)

13. . Quarterback. Los Angeles Chargers. Justin Herbert. 6. player

The Chargers are likely hoping for Tua Tagovailoa, as his skillset fits better into their current roster. With him off the board, they go with the strong-armed Justin Herbert and work to build the roster. Having Tyrod Taylor on the roster buys the Chargers some time in developing and refining the Duck signal caller.

Staff Reaction: This pick is interesting. If the Chargers have a high grade on Herbert, then it makes total sense. If they don’t, they are in prime position to trade back and add extra picks here. Los Angeles already has a loaded roster though, so if Herbert pans out, they could make some noise relatively soon. – Kole Berrey

Round 1: Pick 7 – Carolina Panthers (Cullen Jekel)

. Cornerback. Carolina Panthers. Jeff Okudah. 7. player. 87

A new era in Carolina has begun. New head coach Matt Rhule is making his mark on the team, and after signing quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to a three-year deal, the Panthers will refrain from moving up to draft either Justin Herbert or Tua Tagovailoa.

Incredibly, the top defensive back will fall right into their laps at pick number seven as the Lions went with Simmons and the Giants selected Wirfs. Jeff Okudah – the former Buckeye – will help now, and for years to come, against the pass-heavy attacks in the NFC South.

Staff Reaction: A curveball sends the Buckeye corner to Carolina where he will replace James Bradberry. Panthers may have other needs, such as offensive line they will look to address in the coming rounds. Okudah helps lock down the perimeter in the NFC South. – John McCarty

Round 1: Pick 8 – Arizona Cardinals (Kole Berrey)

Defensive Tackle. Arizona Cardinals. Derrick Brown. 8. player. 32.

The Cardinals would have gone receiver here if not for their offseason trade for star DeAndre Hopkins. Offensive tackle would’ve been smart here too, but Derrick Brown has the potential to be an every down pass rushing defensive tackle. He has flashes of Chris Jones in his game, and pairing him with All-Decade team member Chandler Jones could cause problems for quarterbacks in the NFC West.

Staff Reaction: This is a great pick by the Cardinals. Offensive line has been an ongoing issue for Arizona, but the defense could use some help too and they got the best remaining defensive player currently on the board. – Leigh Oleszczak
