2020 NFL Draft: KC Kingdom Mock Draft

Round 1: Pick 1 – Cincinnati Bengals (Leigh Oleszczak)

Quarterback. Cincinnati Bengals. Joe Burrow. 1. player. 56.

This was always going to be the pick for the Cincinnati Bengals. Joe Burrow might not be the best player in the 2020 NFL Draft, but he’s the best pick for the Bengals. They get their quarterback of the future with Burrow and hope he can replicate that magical 2019 season he had at LSU.

Staff Reaction: This pick is a no-brainer. Joe Burrow is coming off of the most prolific passing season in college football history, and is the consensus first overall pick this year. The native Ohio kid gets to go home and try to turn around a bad Bengals team. – Kole Berrey

Round 1: Pick 2 – Washington Redskins (John McCarty)

Washington Commanders. Chase Young. 2. player. 58. . Defensive End

The Redskins should be looking at either quarterback (is Dwayne Haskins the guy?) or a trade down. However, no offer materializes and the Ron Rivera-led squad takes the top defensive player in the draft.

Staff Reaction: With Burrow going first to Cincinnati, Washington gets to select the best player in the draft, a massive, disrupting force at the edge in Chase Young. No other option here. – Cullen Jekel

Round 1: Pick 3 – Detroit Lions (Cullen Jekel)

Detroit Lions. Isaiah Simmons. 3. player. 50. . Linebacker

Ideally, another team would offer the Lions a package of picks to trade up to this spot. Barring that, however, Detroit’s left with the enviable position selecting one of two solid defensive players: Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah or Clemson’s linebacker Isaiah Simmons. They should opt for the position-less, rangy Simmons, who’ll immediately step in to lead a defense desperate for playmakers.

Staff Reaction: This pick was a bit of a shocker, as the Lions had been linked to Okudah throughout the offseason. It’s not a bad pick, but with Darius Slay off to to Philadelphia, the Lions could have used a new number one cornerback. – Leigh Oleszczak

Round 1: Pick 4 – New York Giants (Leigh Oleszczak)

31. . Offensive Tackle. New York Giants. Tristan Wirfs. 4. player

The Giants have had issues along their offensive line for years now and they do their part in shoring up the tackle spot with Tristan Wirfs out of Iowa. Wirfs might not be the top offensive tackle on some boards, but he’s been linked to the Giants often. His versatility along the line and ability to be plugged in anywhere is what makes him an appealing choice here.

Staff Reaction: Initially surprised but perhaps more surprised to see Simmons go three. Wirfs going fourth feels like a reach, however, Gettleman is believed to be a fan. Wirfs is likely asked to play right tackle initially. – John McCarty
