… and that concludes our fourth staff NFL mock draft!

In an odd turn of events, no trades were made in this year’s edition after having a record setting 15 through the first 32 picks last year. Even though the drama wasn’t as big this year, there were some picks that should surprise.

Here was the rundown on positions selected in this mock:

  • Quarterbacks – 4
  • Wide Receivers – 5
  • Offensive Linemen – 5
  • Defensive Linemen – 4
  • Linebackers – 3
  • EDGE – 3
  • Cornerbacks – 6
  • Safeties – 2

Cornerback was the most drafted position and strangely enough, no running backs were taken in the first round. This has become more of a trend recently, as first round running backs aren’t as valuable as they once were.

LSU and Alabama led the way with six players getting drafted from each school with 16 of the 32 picks coming from SEC schools. At one point, there was a run on SEC players with picks eight through 21 having all but three players hailing from the SEC. There would be runs on taking Alabama players and then runs with selecting LSU players, proving they both had the most talented draft classes this year.

While some of these picks might have surprised you, our general managers explained their thought processes and why they went the route that they did with each choice. This mock draft was a lot of fun and we’ll see how accurate of a job our general managers did when the first round kicks off on Thursday!
