The Kansas City Chiefs won a tight game against the Broncos and now hit the road for a date with the San Diego Chargers. This game was critical in the AFC West race.

The 2010 season was an enjoyable one for the Kansas City Chiefs to this point because well – They had already doubled their win total from a season prior.

After the Raiders lost in week 14, it opened things up for the Chiefs to breakaway in the AFC West, but it wouldn’t be easy. They had to travel to San Diego for a rematch with a team they knocked off in the first week of the season.

The Chargers were the top dogs in the AFC West for the past few seasons, but the Chiefs were looking to become the new kings of the division. How did this game turn out?

WEEK 14 VS SAN DIEGO CHARGERS: DECEMBER 12TH, 2010

Well, to answer my previous question, it didn’t turn out well for Kansas City.

The biggest storyline in this game was that the Chiefs were without Matt Cassel, who didn’t even make the trip to San Diego. That paved the way for Brodie Croyle to lead the offense, but that seems too generous of a phrasing for Croyle.

I never understood how Croyle was able to stay on the Chiefs roster for as long as he did because – let’s just say it – the guy was terrible at football. He never won a start in his NFL career and he had ten cracks at it. Even worse quarterbacks than him stumble into wins at some point, but not ol’ Croyle.

This was an ugly game for both sides of the ball. Croyle couldn’t get anything going for the offense and even though the run game had been electric to this point of the season, they had just 49 yards against the Bolts. Jamaal Charles led the way with 40 yards rushing off of just ten carries. Thomas Jones only had a yard.

Croyle was terrible, completing just seven passes for 40 yards while getting sacked four times. None of the receivers were able to have a big day due to Croyle’s lack of throwing the ball. It was a rough day for everyone.

The defense didn’t do much better and it was evident when the Chargers went down the field on their first drive and scored that this was going to be one of those games you throw in the trash and forget about.

San Diego led 21-0 at the half and put up another ten points in the second half, winning 31-0. It was the first time KC had been shutout since 2008 against the Panthers.

The Chiefs were now 8-5 on the year and still had a lead in the division, but it would definitely be a close race to the finish line in the AFC West.

REMEMBER THAT GUY?

I don’t want to talk about this game anymore. Onto the next please.
