KC Royals news includes how MLB.com took a stab at who the next number to be retired would be for each club and for the Royals – It was predicted it’d be Ned Yost’s number three.

The Kansas City Royals don’t have many retired numbers in the organization’s history, but who will be the next jersey number to be retired if one had to guess?

Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com predicts that it will be Ned Yost‘s number three jersey next to go up on the wall in left field at Kauffman Stadium along with George Brett‘s number five, Dick Howser‘s number ten, and Frank White‘s number 20.

While Flanagan notes that Alex Gordon‘s number four or Salvador Perez‘s number 13 could have been argued here, Yost being retired already made the decision to pick him that much easier.

Flanagan writes,

"Yost, who managed the Royals from 2010-19, is the all-time leader in Royals’ manager wins with 687.Yost also is the only manager in club history to guide his team to back-to-back World Series.Oh, and then there’s that glittering 22-9 postseason record, a .710 winning percentage that is the best in MLB history for managers with at least 20 postseason games."

This shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone, as Yost spent a decade with the Royals and stuck by them through their rebuilding years and helped turn them into a postseason machine. He might have frustrated fans at times with his decision making, but isn’t that something most managers and coaches do?

Yost was one of the all-time greats in Royals history.

The Kansas City Royals don’t have many retired numbers, but when they decide to retire another one, it’ll most likely be Ned Yost’s. Even though he had his fair share of frustrating moments as manager of the Royals, he did things with this club that even managers of teams with better history haven’t been able to achieve.

Yost’s number three will surely be displayed in left field and eventually Alex Gordon’s number four will join him as well.
