Kansas City Chiefs: Scenarios for first round of 2020 NFL Draft

Trading Back
While I do believe the Chiefs decide to stay at 32 and pick the best available player, I don’t think any fan of the team would be surprised in the least bit if Brett Veach decides to wheel and deal a bit here.
It all depends on just how the first round shakes out. This scenario would play out very similar to the Chiefs deciding not to trade the pick away.
A run on certain positions could push back a few players the Chiefs value highly. The team could also get calls on the 32nd pick from teams trying to trade back into the first, like the Ravens did a few years ago to select Lamar Jackson.
The Chiefs would be willing to do this if they were confident that one of the players they were targeting at 32 would be around for them later in the second.
This would honestly probably happen if the Chiefs were looking at a guy like D’Andre Swift, but a another running back they have a similar grade on, perhaps Clyde Edwards-Helaire, was slipping as well. Kansas City could then trade back, acquire more picks, and still get a player at a non-premium position without having to use a first round pick.
This scenario makes even more sense when you consider the Chiefs are tied for last in the league for fewest draft picks, with only five selections this year. Trading back would give the team more assets to work with.
