ROUND 2: PICK 31 (63RD OVERALL)

Ross Blacklock. 63. player. 872. . Defensive Tackle. Horned Frogs

With their second round pick, the Chiefs go with Ross Blacklock of the TCU Horned Frogs. Blacklock played just two seasons at TCU and totaled 67 tackles (15.5 for loss) and five and a half sacks.

Blacklock’s stats might not have been mind-blowing, but the Big 12 in general isn’t known for their defense. He is an exciting prospect to add to a defense due to his size (6’4″ and 305 pounds), but an Achilles injury that kept him from taking the field in 2018 could be a concern for some teams.

Blacklock did show that he was able to bounce back just fine from that injury, but already having a major injury could scare teams away. Ross Blacklock appears to be worth the risk however.

WHAT EXPERTS ARE SAYING:

"Blacklock needs to develop his processing skills but his ceiling is exciting given how physically talented he is and how he already applies those gifts on the field to make plays. He deserves to be among the first interior defensive linemen selected in the Draft and has the upside to become a building block for an NFL defense. -Joe Marino, The Draft Network"

ROUND 3: PICK 32 (96TH OVERALL)

This was the first pick where the Chiefs didn’t really need that to add at that position, but hey – rules are rules, so Ashtyn Davis of California was the pick here. Davis spent five years at Cal where he totaled 166 tackles, 12 passes defensed, and seven interceptions.

The Chiefs appear to be in a good spot at the safety position with Tyrann Mathieu still under contract for two more years and Juan Thornhill coming off of what was an impressive rookie season before he was injured.

Thornhill missing time could have been a much bigger deal had Kendall Fuller not been able to slide in and play some safety throughout the playoffs. Having a solid depth piece like Davis to fill the gap should an injury like that occur again could be a season saving move by Kansas City.

WHAT EXPERTS ARE SAYING:

"The elite traits should get him drafted inside the first two days, but there are some boom/bust elements to his game right now. He should become a future starter at safety, but his size, length and speed could create interest in him as a potential cornerback conversion. -Lance Zierlein, NFL.com"
