In our fifth 2020 NFL Mock Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs draft the best available player with each of their five selections. What exactly did that look like?

As of now, the 2020 NFL Draft is scheduled to go on as planned and with that, mock drafts will keep coming. In my latest mock draft, the Kansas City Chiefs with the age old “best available player” strategy.

I did include some exceptions, however, because otherwise the Chiefs would have ended up with three running backs in this mock draft and that’s not realistic in the least bit. If the Chiefs already drafted a player at the position – especially a high profile position – then they went with the next best player on the board.

I used Fanspeak’s mock draft simulator, which is great for any draft nerd like myself. I’ve been rotating between their simulator and The Draft Network’s simulator.

So, how did selecting the best available player go for the Kansas City Chiefs in my latest mock draft?

ROUND 1: PICK 32 (32ND OVERALL)

Clyde Edwards-Helaire. 32. player. 817. . Running Back. Tigers

Well, for the second straight mock draft, the Kansas City Chiefs went with a running back in the first round. This time, it’s Clyde Edwards-Helaire of the National Champion LSU Tigers.

Edwards-Helaire wasn’t a household name until the 2019 season (though to be fair – not many at LSU were) because he had an absolute monster season. The Tigers running back carried the rock 215 times for 1,414 yards and 16 touchdowns while also hauling in 55 catches for 453 yards and another  touchdown.

Edwards-Helaire is the kind of running back Andy Reid covets being that he’s a guy who can do damage both on the ground and through the air. He’d be a great addition to the Chiefs backfield and offense, but taking a running back in the first round is definitely risky.

That being said, Edwards-Helaire probably isn’t falling to Kansas City at pick 63, so if Brett Veach and company wants him in Chiefs red, they’ll need to spend a first round pick (or trade back into the earlier portion of the second round) in order to get him.

WHAT EXPERTS ARE SAYING:

"He has the talent to become a good, three-down back in time, but needs to improve in pass protection. -Lance Zierlein, NFL.com"
