Fourth and Fifth Round Targets

As the draft rolls along, draft position because less and less predictable, so in my big boards, I combine the last two picks into one late-round pick category. Even though the fourth and fifth rounds are really middle rounds, they are the late rounds for the Chiefs this year with no sixth or seventh-round selections (though that definitely could change).

1. Albert Okwuegbunam, TE Mizzou

All of the dual Chiefs-Tigers fans out there would love to keep Okwuegbunam at home and see him back up Travis Kelce for the Chiefs. He has the athletic and physical mold to be a great receiving tight end in the NFL. Learning behind Kelce for a few years could be the best way to tap into this potential (and catching passes from Mahomes wouldn’t hurt either).

2. Yasir Durant, G/T Mizzou

As you can tell, I like my offensive lineman big and versatile (and also like Mizzou players for Day 3). Sticking with that here, Durant is another Mizzou alumn who the Chiefs could look to add in the fourth-round to help bolster their protection of Mahomes. I’d love to see Durant in Kansas City next year.

3. Shyheim Carter, CB/S Alabama

Carter is an interesting prospect to me. He really came to my attention after I jumped on the Delpit train. Carter’s ability to play both slot corner and safety could give him the ability to run Fuller’s late-season role and be a plug and play player in the Chiefs’ three safety sets.

Carter would likely be a reach in the fifth round so he may be a trade back target or maybe even a UDFA, but nonetheless he is an interesting prospect. He doesn’t have great size or speed, but is very versatile and was once a top-10 cornerback recruit coming out of high school.

4. Darrynton Evans, RB Appalachian State

Do I think the Chiefs need a running back? No, but if Veach does decide to take one Evans will have great value in the middle rounds. He is quick, running a 4.41 40-yard dash and very elusive. He is not a huge running back, but he also not extremely undersized. If he can put on some weight without losing speed, Evans could be one of the top running backs in this class.

5. Darnay Holmes, CB UCLA

I’m really not sure if Holmes makes it to the Chiefs fourth-round pick, but if they get to pick 138 the Chiefs should take him, especially if they haven’t addressed corner yet for some reason. Holmes is a former five-star speedster who doesn’t have the ideal frame for an NFL cornerback but could be worth a look as a mid-round corner with high upside.

Recap

Drafts are crazy and who knows how it will end up, but I would love to see the Kansas City Chiefs target these 20 prospects. A draft that brings the Chiefs Ruiz, Hall, Dye,  Okwuegbunam, and Evans would be a very realistic balanced draft that could be excellent for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs are also prime trade back candidates as well so don’t be surprised if they finish the draft with more than five picks. What do you think of these prospects, Chiefs Kingdom?
