The Kansas City Royals’ second baseman/outfielder Whit Merrifield tells everyone how he is spending his hiatus from the world of baseball.

Are you ever curious about how some of the Kansas City Royals are spending their time off while they await word of when baseball operations might re-activate? Wonder no longer about what Whit Merrifield is doing.

Because of the unique situation in which professional athletes find themselves – home, on their own like the rest of us – each player has to figure out their own way to stay in shape for when they are called back to their jobs.

Evidently, Merrifield stays in shape by running through cow pastures, among his “cow buddies” and avoiding “cow patties” and the bull. To each his own! It is certainly interesting to see what works for each individual.

Watch Kansas City Royals star Whit Merrifield describe what he does to work out and stay in shape.

Good luck, Whit!

Merrifield has been one of the most pleasant surprises and bright spots for the Royals since their 2015 World Series championship. He’s hit .296 in his four seasons and has led the league in hits twice, stolen bases twice, and triples once.

Over the past two seasons, Merrifield has only missed four games and has logged 1,442 plate appearances. In his career, he has played in at least six games at every fielding position but shortstop and catcher.

While he has seen the most time at second base and rightfield, the plan is for him to be the primary starting centerfielder in 2020.

He’s going to need to maintain his speed patrolling centerfield in the cavernous Kauffman Stadium, so training by running through a pasture avoiding cattle and cow patties seems like it might be a good idea.
