RANKING 2019 REGULAR SEASON GAMES

NUMBER 1: WEEK 9 VS VIKINGS (26-23 WIN)

The week nine victory against the Minnesota Vikings was the best Kansas City Chiefs regular season game in 2019. The biggest reason why is because it came at a time when the Chiefs DESPERATELY needed a win to salvage their season.

Week nine was the second consecutive game Patrick Mahomes had to miss due to injury and after dropping a close game to the Packers the week prior, beating Minnesota was something that had to happen, and it’d have to happen without the team’s MVP.

This game was close throughout with the Chiefs and Vikings trading leads throughout. Matt Moore did his part masterfully, throwing for 275 yards and a touchdown while getting sacked five times (yikes!). While the defense allowed Kirk Cousins to throw for three touchdowns, they slowed down the rushing attack of Dalvin Cook holding him 71 yards.

One of the biggest plays in this game was Damien Williams taking the pigskin 91 yards to the house to put KC up 17-16. This proved pivotal because things came down to the final seconds.

With the game tied in the final two minutes, Moore completed two crucial passes to Tyreek Hill and spiked the ball with enough time for Harrison Butker to attempt the game winning field goal. Chiefs Kingdom held their breath as Butker’s 44-yard field goal went through the uprights, giving the Kansas City Chiefs the win and keeping their hopes at a first round bye alive.

This game might not have had Patrick Mahomes throwing passes in it, but it was when Chiefs fans realized this defense was capable of winning a Super Bowl and that the offense could survive without Mahomes if they had to. Butker’s game winning field goal saved the season and when fans look back at the 2019 regular season, many point to this game as being when they truly started to believe.

It was tough to narrow down the Chiefs’ 16 regular season games and pick the best ones, but this was my list. The Vikings game had to be number one because the Chiefs won even with the odds stacked against them.
