KC Chiefs: Ranking all 16 regular season games from 2019 season
RANKING 2019 REGULAR SEASON GAMES
NUMBER 3: WEEK 2 VS RAIDERS (28-10 WIN)
While this game wasn’t as much of a nail biter as the Lions game, it’s third on the list because of the absolute INSANE second quarter that took place.
After a 10-0 Raiders lead after one quarter of play, people seemed puzzled that the Chiefs hadn’t done much offensively after their offensive output in Jacksonville the week prior. Well, Patrick Mahomes heard the clamoring and decided he’d heard enough of it, leading the Chiefs to 28 unanswered points, all scored in the second quarter.
The onslaught went like this:
- Mahomes connected with Demarcus Robinson for a 44 yard bomb on the first play of the second quarter. Chiefs trailed 10-7.
- Chiefs took a 14-10 lead on a 42-yard pass from Mahomes to Mecole Hardman with 5:57 remaining in the half.
- Travis Kelce got in on the action with a 27-yard-pass from Mahomes with 1:46 remaining in quarter number two.
- After a three and out and a terrible punt by the Raiders, it took one play for KC to find the end zone again, as Mahomes found Robinson down field once more for a 39 yard touchdown to finish the second quarter butt whooping.
Even though that was the last of the points scored for either side, the second quarter of this game will go down as one of the most dominate quarters in Chiefs history. The fact that it came against the Raiders only made things that much sweeter.
NUMBER 2: WEEK 14 VS PATRIOTS (23-16 WIN)
This one is number two because it signaled the beginning of the end that was the downward spiral of the 2019 New England Patriots. From 2001 and on, the Patriots were a pain in the side for the other 31 teams in the league, so seeing their fall from grace was a thing of beauty.
This game ended up being huge because with the Chiefs winning and holding the tiebreaker over New England, that ensured the Chiefs would get the two seed once the Patriots lost to Miami in the week 17 finale.
The game itself wasn’t riveting, but it was still fun to watch. The Patriots made things interesting late, but the Chiefs defense showed they had rounded the corner and were able to keep Tom Brady from leading a comeback. Brady was held to just 19 completions for 169 yards and was sacked three times.
Again, this game isn’t second necessarily because of the gameplay itself, but more of that the outcome of the game helped the Chiefs come playoff time. Also, it’s always fun knocking off the Patriots and we’ll likely never see a dynasty like them ever again.
