With their third selection, the Kansas City Chiefs return to the defensive side of the ball and go with Darrell Taylor out of Tennessee at pick 96. Taylor spent five seasons in Knoxville and finished his fifth and final year as a Volunteer with 46 total tackles (ten for loss) while notching eight and a half sacks. He led Tennessee in sacks and tackles for loss in both 2018 and 2019, per The Draft Network.

What’s nice about Taylor is that he has versatility. He has the ability to play outside linebacker or defensive end, depending on if a team runs a 3-4 or a 4-3. That makes him an excellent addition to this defense, which took major strides in 2019 under Steve Spagnuolo.

A red flag with Taylor, however, is that he was suspended during the 2017 season for kicking a teammate in the face during practice. It appears that was the only incident involving Taylor during his time at Tennessee, but sometimes those red flags can hurt a guy’s draft stock, no matter what the situation was or how long ago it took place.

Taylor slipping to the 96th pick would be a steal for the Chiefs and they’d be able to find a place for him in their improving defense.

WHAT EXPERTS ARE SAYING:

"Taylor has room to grow in deploying a more consistently effective pass rush plan and becoming more of a presence against the run. Taylor has a chance to become an eventual starter and factor into the rotation early in his NFL career. -Joe Marino, The Draft Network (linked above)"
