The Kansas City Royals project for 71 wins with the San Francisco Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates, Seattle Mariners, Detroit Tigers, Miami Marlins, and Baltimore Orioles all figured to have similar or worse season outcomes in 2020.

The 2020 Royals should be much better than they were in 2019 and should win enough games to miss out on the number one overall draft position. If key injuries occur, prospects don’t develop, and the pitching staff implodes, however, the Royals could garner the number one overall draft position.

The 2020 season would be considered an absolute disaster, but the minor league system would receive a major upgrade if the Royals were forced to decide between Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter with the number one overall draft choice. Both Rocker and Leiter have the talent to climb a system quickly and become among the best pitchers in the major league.

Whichever team gets unlucky enough to have a disastrous season in 2020 will get the benefit of adding potential generational pitching talent in Rocker or Leiter to their farm system.

While fans want to see the Kansas City Royals improve in 2020, landing one of these two incredible talents wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
