Kansas City Chiefs: 2020 NFL Draft Big Board 1.0
By Shade Piper
Targets for Round Three (Pick 96)
There are a lot of prospects I love that are currently projected to go in the third-round range. It was actually very hard for me to limit the potential third round targets to just five. This just goes to show how deep this draft class is.
1. Thaddeus Moss, TE LSU
Thaddeus Moss doesn’t possess the athleticism that his dad Randy Moss did back in his day, but he does have great size and hands. He could be a solid TE2 for the Chiefs and learn behind the best in the business.
Not only is he a pass-catching threat, but he is actually a willing blocker as well and those two traits are what you want out of a TE2. If he could learn under Travis Kelce and improve his route running, it would help to cover-up his mediocre athleticism and could potentially make him a complete tight end worthy of starting in the NFL.
2. Akeem Davis-Gaither, LB Appalachian State
Akeem Davis-Gaither is a smaller school prospect that everyone is raving about. I wouldn’t be surprised to see his stock rise even further than it already has, but for now, if the Chiefs are still needing a linebacker come round three, this is the guy if available.
Davis-Gaither would fill a big hole for the Chiefs. He projects as a weak side linebacker in a 4-3 package and has the speed to be excellent in coverage. He needs to put on some weight and learn to be more disciplined against the run, but he has the athleticism and motor to be a great contributor at the next level.
3. Robert Hunt, G Louisiana
Robert Hunt is like a less polished Solomon Kindley. He is huge, plays with a lot of power and is surprisingly agile for his size. His footwork isn’t perfect though and will likely need some work to be successful against NFL pass rushers. Another thing to like about Hunt is that he has experience playing everywhere across the line, so that gives teams some flexibility on the line.
4. Ben Bredeson, G Michigan
Ben Bredeson has good strength and lateral mobility and also always plays with excellent energy and toughness. He needs to work to improve his footwork, but Mel Kiper went as far as to say that he could be the best guard in the draft. Veach would love to get the best guard in the draft with his third-round pick.
5. Darnay Holmes, CB UCLA
Darnay Holmes is a speedy former five-star out of UCLA. He probably didn’t live up to his five-star expectations at UCLA, but could change that in the right situation in the NFL. He doesn’t have ideal size for an NFL corner, but has quick feet and could be excellent in the slot. Holmes needs to work on technique at the next level, but has the man coverage skills and the speed to be an NFL starter.
