3. Jeff Gladney, CB TCU

The Chiefs currently only have two cornerbacks set to return from the Super Bowl roster, so depending on who Veach is able to retain, this could become by far the biggest need for the Chiefs. This is where Jeff Gladney could come to the rescue.

Gladney is very athletically gifted. These athletic abilities landed on Bruce Feldman’s College Football Freaks List (subscription required) and freaky really is the best way to describe his athleticism.

According to Feldman, Gladney ran a 4.34-second 40-yard dash this offseason. He also reported that Gladney squats 620 pounds and benches and cleans 400 pounds. The dude is a beast and this is even prior to talking about his skills on the football field.

Gladney has great ball skills and stays glued to his opponent in man coverage with his quick feet and fluid hips. His man coverage abilities will be key in his ability to excel at the next level. He is also a willing tackler and while it appears that his worst concern might be his length, he has the ball skills to make up for it.

4. Bryce Hall, CB Virginia

Taking Bryce Hall in the first round would likely be considered a reach by most at this point, but if he is healthy and can prove to have better than advertised athleticism at the combine, he would quickly climb up draft boards.

If Hall was available for the Chiefs in the second round he would be a steal, but seeing his name toward the end of the second round might be unrealistic. If this is the Chiefs’ guy they would likely have to reach a little to grab him. He would also be a great target if the Chiefs decide to trade back, which could be a good option this year if the above prospects are off the board.

Despite average athleticism, there are a lot of reasons to like Hall as a prospect. He is a very intelligent player, which when combined with his length and physicality can hide a lot of his athletic shortcomings.

Another reason for the Chiefs to like him is his chemistry with sophomore safety Juan Thornhill, who looks to be a vital part of the Chiefs defense in the years to come. Reuniting Thornhill and Hall in Kansas City could quickly produce great results for the Chiefs.

5. Damon Arnette, CB Ohio State

So for this first draft big board, I wanted to throw in a little bit of a different prospect for the Chiefs to look at in round one. I would also love a guy like Kristian Fulton (and yes, I am intentionally avoiding running backs in the first round) here as well if available, but being realistic let’s take a look at Damon Arnette.

Arnette is another guy who might look like a potential reach right now, but I personally love him. He is big, athletic, physical, and overall just a very talented cornerback. It really seems like he is one of the most slept on corners of the draft right now.

He gets overshadowed a bit by Jeffrey Okudah, but he legitimately has number one corner potential in the NFL. According to Walter Football, he does have some character concerns, but if he can prove that he has matured with good team interviews, he is a legit first-round talent.

Arnette not only has the physical traits that you want in your starting cornerback, but he is also very versatile and should have success in both man and zone. Could the Chiefs make Arnette the second Ohio State cornerback drafted in the first round this year?
