Every year the draft truly kicks off with the annual combine and the Kansas City Chiefs will have to hit several home runs in the draft. Here are some players for Chiefs fans to watch in this year’s combine.

If the Kansas City Chiefs bring back Chris Jones, they basically will have completed their offseason, as the move will likely absorb most of their remaining money and they will have to rely on the draft to fill their multiple holes on their roster. When half of the roster consists of free agents, things like this happen.

Here, we look players that could interest the Chiefs in the lead up to the draft process.

If the Chiefs do indeed bring back Jones, they obviously will be unable to bring back any of their defensive back free agents, which include starter Bashaud Breeland and versatile backup Kendall Fuller.

A solid group of defensive backs could be available to Chiefs at the end of the first round. Adding to this position early is a must.

If you want an early leader in the clubhouse for a position group targeted heavily by the Chiefs early in the draft, it would be corner. They need a starter at that position as a rookie. The position group in this draft is deep, helping push potential helpful players down to where the Chiefs are selecting.

Kristian Fulton out of LSU may be the best prospect, but was suspended at LSU for issues stemming from a drug test. Trevon Diggs of Alabama is the brother of Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs and a former receiver himself, while TCU’s Jeff Gladney is currently the only prospect that doesn’t measure 6’0″ or greater. Cameron Dantzler, Diggs and Stanford Samuels are all currently listed at 6’2″.

Fulton is the best prospect, but not likely available at 32 and the Chiefs have too many needs and too little draft capital to move up this year. Diggs may also be off the board. Dantzler is an intriguing prospect I’m keeping an eye on as a potential riser to the back of first round consideration.
