Kansas City Chiefs: Way too early mock 2020 NFL Draft
ROUND 4: PICK 32 (135TH OVERALL)
It’s no secret that the Kansas City Chiefs defense improved greatly in 2019, but that doesn’t mean the Chiefs shouldn’t look to improve certain spots defensively. Linebacker is one of those positions and Evan Weaver out of Cal could be a nice option to slot into the defense.
Weaver is solid against both the pass and the rush and obviously the Chiefs would like to find help when it comes to stopping the run. Something else that stood out when researching Weaver was that he is a good tackler, indicated by his 181 total tackles during his senior campaign in 2019.
Linebacker is a big time need fo the Chiefs and if Weaver falls to Day 3 of the draft and the Chiefs can get him with the 135th overall pick, that’d be a downright steal.
WHAT EXPERTS ARE SAYING:
"Evan Weaver is most definitely a starting linebacker at the NFL level, although his three down skills are going to be limited based on his ability to fulfill coverage reps with consistency and efficiency. -Kyle Crabbs, The Draft Network"
ROUND 5: PICK 31 (177TH OVERALL)
With their final pick in the draft (for now at least), the Chiefs select Gabriel Davis out of UCF to help shore up their receiver depth. While some might not think it’s necessary to take a receiver in the draft, keep in mind that Sammy Watkins could be gone next year and Demarcus Robinson is surely going to be on another team in 2020.
That means the Chiefs will have Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman, and Byron Pringle (along with Kelce as tight end) as their main options, and while that’s not a terrible group, drafting a wideout would be a wise move.
Davis exploded onto the scene in 2019, grabbing 72 catches for 1,241 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s not going to be the WR2 option right from the start, but give him a season to develop and he could become a deadly weapon for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense.
WHAT EXPERTS ARE SAYING:
"Davis is a Year 1 special-teamer with the potential to develop into a field stretcher by Year 2/3 if he broadens his route tree and works his releases. -Benjamin Solak, The Draft Network"
