It’s never too early to start looking at what the Kansas City Chiefs offseason might look like whether it be good, bad, or unfortunate. After winning the Lombardi Trophy, what’s to come and who’s to go in 2020?

The offseason is now officially upon us, even as the Kansas City Chiefs get set to parade up Grand Boulevard to a large crowd on a chilly February winter day. Free agency brings questions, as the organization faces questions at a lot of positions and tough decisions will have to be made.

With free agency followed by the draft followed by training camp followed by the start of the season, a short offseason will fly by. What will an exciting offseason look like? I take a guess at a couple different ideas.

The Chiefs defense has multiple contributors set to be free agents this offseason that hopefully return.

Perhaps no position group is under more scrutiny than at defensive back with Kendall Fuller, Bashaud Breeland  and Jordan Lucas set to be free agents this offseason. Breeland played a big role in the Chiefs defense, taking hold as a force on its own while Fuller proved to be versatile able to contribute at both safety and corner. Lucas has been a contributor on all special teams.

A few other names to keep an eye on are Emmanuel Ogbah at defensive end along with defensive tackles Mike Pennel and Xavier Williams, who are solid big bodies along the interior of the line. Ogbah proved to be a capable contributor before he suffered a season ending injury.

Adding and keeping these pieces, or a majority of them, allows the Chiefs the freedom to return a majority of their defense that grew and developed as the season went on. Will it be the best unit in the league? Not likely, but even still, we saw as it improved throughout the season.
