RANKING EVERY SEASON FROM 2010-2019

NUMBER 3: 2015

  • Regular Season Record: 11-5
  • Playoff Result: Lost in Divisional Round to Patriots
  • Biggest Win: Week 10 vs Broncos (29-13)
  • Worst Loss: Week 2 vs Broncos (31-24)
  • Team MVP: Alex Smith & Eric Berry
  • Rookie of the Year: Marcus Peters
  • Notable Achievements: Finished regular season on 10-game win streak after starting the season at 1-5, won first playoff game since 1993 season

The 2015 season looked to be on its way as one of the worst of the decade sitting early on in the season. After winning their season opener and being on the cusp of knocking off the Broncos for the first time since the 2011 season, the Chiefs lost five straight games and were 1-5 on the year.

The fans were pretty upset by that point and some were even calling for Andy Reid’s job. It wasn’t a fun time to root for the Chiefs, but brighter times were ahead.

In week 7, the Chiefs defeated the Steelers for the first time in what felt like forever (though Big Ben was injured in that one for what it’s worth) and many feel that Eric Berry’s first pick six since returning after having cancer was what turned the season around.

From then on, the Kansas City Chiefs were red hot, winning the final ten games of the regular season to end up at 11-5 on the year. They made a strong run at the division title, but the Broncos took the AFC West unfortunately.

Still, starting off at 1-5 and ending up at 11-5 was almost unheard of and it was a lot of fun to follow along with. The best game of the year was easily in week ten when the Chiefs, who were coming off a bye and sat at 3-5 at the time, went into Denver, a place they had struggled, and crushed the Broncos.

The game started off with a Peyton Manning interception and he ended up throwing four total picks that afternoon (one less than the amount of completions he had) and wound up getting benched. Yes, the Kansas City Chiefs got Peyton Manning BENCHED. This was someone who had owned the Chiefs throughout his career, but his final game against KC was one of the worst of his career.

While that game was obviously a highlight, the Chiefs making it to the playoffs after a 1-5 start was one of the most memorable parts of the season. KC went on to win their first playoff game in 22 years, defeating the Texans on the road 30-0 in the Wild Card round. The Chiefs gave it all they had against the Patriots the next week, but lost by a touchdown.

The 2015 season was the beginning of some great years for the Chiefs, but because of the 1-5 start to 11-5 finish, it winds up as the third best season of the 2010s.
