RANKING EVERY SEASON FROM 2010-2019

NUMBER 2: 2018

  • Regular Season Record: 12-4
  • Playoff Result: Lost in AFC Championship Game to Patriots
  • Biggest Win: Divisional Round vs Colts (31-13)
  • Worst Loss: Week 15 vs Chargers (29-28)
  • Team MVP: Patrick Mahomes
  • Rookie of the Year: Andrew Wylie
  • Notable Achievements: Number one seed in AFC playoffs, first ever MVP, hosted AFC Championship Game, won home playoff game for first time since 1993 season

Before we knew the ending to the 2019 season, the next best season for the Chiefs was 2018 in which the Kansas City Chiefs finished with a 12-4 record for the second time in three years. This record gave them home field advantage throughout the playoffs and they actually held serve there this time, hosting their first AFC Championship Game in Arrowhead Stadium’s existence.

This was the first full year of the Patrick Mahomes Experience and he wowed the pants off of everyone, throwing for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns on his way to the league MVP award, the first time a Chief had ever won the distinguished award.

Mahomes and the offense dazzled throughout the season putting up mesmerizing numbers all year long. We’ll all remember the video game like numbers that both the Chiefs and Rams put up in that week 11 loss to the Rams (who went on to make the Super Bowl that year).

The 2018 season was magical from beginning to nearly the end and had Dee Ford not jumped off sides, Kansas City would have advanced to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, he did do that and the Chiefs instead had to settle for a great year and having the league MVP on their team.

The best part of the 2018 season was watching Mahomes do what he did on a week to week basis and knowing that he’d be a member of this team for the unforeseeable future. FINALLY the Kansas City Chiefs had a franchise quarterback who they actually drafted; No more castoffs from other teams, but a homegrown guy who wanted to be here. It was an awesome feeling.

The Chiefs might not have gone to the Super Bowl in 2018, but they finally won a home playoff game and did so against the Colts, a team who had been a thorn in this franchise’s side over the years, especially in the postseason.

They beat down the Colts in the Divisional Round and that truly made Chiefs fans believed that good things can happen to this team in the postseason; They just needed the right quarterback to make the big plays happen.

The only way the 2018 season wouldn’t have been number one on this list would have been if the Chiefs made it to the Super Bowl in 2019 and we all know that ended up happening, so here we are. No one should be upset about the 2018 season being number two on this list because it paved the way for the number one season of the decade.
