George Kittle vs Travis Kelce

This is absolutely must see television, ladies and gents. Long passed up as the best tight end in football in the eyes of the national media by Rob Gronkowski, Travis Kelce was poised to solidify his name as the top dog these last few years. George Kittle had other plans, igniting a debate that honestly has no clear answer.

Kittle or Kelce – Who is better?

For my money, I still have Travis Kelce. If you were asking me to build a franchise, I would obviously go with the younger prospect. The way Kelce plays gets lost on the public, though. He is a bona fide number one receiver, who has an insane route tree, hands, understanding of defenses, yards after the catch ability, and is a total mismatch wherever you put him on the field.

I get all of those can be used to describe George Kittle as well, and the argument is very close. You honestly cannot go wrong with either one, but which player will have the bigger Super Bowl?

This will be interesting, I would argue it is more important for the Chiefs to stop Kittle than it is for the 49ers to stop Kelce. The Chiefs are going to move the ball regardless, and if you put all the eggs in one basket to stop Kelce, the Chiefs have a ton of other weapons to burn you.

The 49ers also obviously have other weapons as well; Deebo Samuel and Emmanuel Sanders are great wide receivers. The reason stopping Kittle is so important, however, is because Jimmy Garoppolo is not Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes has the ability to scramble, make off playform throws, and essentially make plays even when a receiver was ”shut down” early in the play. Jimmy Garoppolo is a fine quarterback who is very talented in his own right, but that just isn’t his game.

It seems that Kyle Shanahan has at least one or two shots designed to go to Kittle for big yardage. He also seems to be Jimmy’s biggest target during crunch time. That is why it is important for the Chiefs to try to take him out of the equation, which is way easier said than done.

Still, either player going off on football’s biggest stage will go a long way in helping their team win it all. The winner of this match-up will have even more bragging right and credibility on just who is the best in the game.
