After losing to the Tennessee Titans earlier in the season, the Kansas City Chiefs are now set for a big rematch with them in the AFC Championship Game. This time, though, the outcome will be different.

A knee injury to Patrick Mahomes in week seven against the Denver Broncos seemed turned the Kansas City Chiefs‘ 2019 season on its head. The injury to the star quarterback came after two straight losses to AFC South opponents and seemed to mark the beginning of the end of the Chiefs’ season.

Then news came that Mahomes would soon return and if backup quarterback Matt Moore could hold things together, the season could potentially be salvaged. And that’s exactly what happened.

Mahomes was able to make his return in Week 10 against the Tennessee Titans, a 4-5 team that looked ready to take another loss. This was supposed to be Mahomes’ return to superhero status and get the Chiefs back on track.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The Chiefs instead left Tennessee with their fourth loss in six weeks with a need to find their identity.

Fast forward to now and Kansas City hasn’t lost another game since that one against the Titans. Tennessee, on the other hand, dropped a few more games before barely sneaking into the playoffs as the AFC’s number six seed.

After knocking off the Patriots in Foxborough in the first round, they marched into Baltimore and upset the number one seed Ravens. Their win in Baltimore helped to set up a second straight AFC Championship at Arrowhead Stadium and a showdown between two formidable teams.

While they’ve surprised many by their victories in the first two rounds, the end of their season awaits them in Kansas City. So let’s take a look at why this game will have a different outcome than the first one.
