Kansas City Chiefs: Madden Simulation for Week 17 vs Chargers
By Shade Piper

The bittersweet regular season finale is here. The Kansas City Chiefs will play the Chargers in Arrowhead with a lot of playoff implications on the line.
A lot of movement can still happen in the AFC playoff picture. The Kansas City Chiefs can clinch the three seed if they take care of business with a win on Sunday. They could also even shoot up to the two seed if the Dolphins are able to beat the Patriots Sunday (hey, there’s always a chance, right?).
If the Chiefs aren’t able to take care of business on Sunday and the Texans beat the Titans, Kansas City would fall to the four seed. Now there isn’t a huge difference in the three and four seed in the Wild Card round, but it will be a big difference when you look at heading to Baltimore or Foxboro in the next round.
The Wild Card difference is the four seed will play Buffalo and the three seed will play Pittsburgh, Tennessee, or Oakland (yes, the Raiders have a shot at the playoffs). Many would consider the Titans the scariest of the potential Wild Card teams, so in that sense, the four seed sounds nice, but I would also rather play the Steelers or the Raiders than the Bills.
A lot of stuff is out of the Chiefs’ hands, but what they can control is their own game versus the preseason AFC West favorite Los Angeles Chargers. So let’s take a look at the Madden simulation for this week.
FINAL SCORE – CHIEFS 13, CHARGERS 31
CHIEFS STATS
- Patrick Mahomes – 185 yards, 2 TD
- Damien Williams – 1 rec, 16 yards; 8 rush, 25 yards
- LeSean McCoy – 2 rec, 12 yards, TD; 5 rush, 10 yards
- Tyreek Hill – 3 rec, 63 yards, TD
- Travis Kelce – 5 rec, 48 yards, TD
- Demarcus Robinson – 6 rec, 58 yards
- Sammy Watkins – 2 rec, 13 yards
- Terrell Suggs – 5 tackles, 1 sack
TITANS STATS
- Philip Rivers – 307 yards, TD
- Melvin Gordon – 19 rush, 95 yards, TD
- Austin Ekeler – 3 rec, 44 yards; 14 rush, 31 yards, TD
- Keenan Allen – 11 rec, 141 yards, TD
- Hunter Henry – 2 rec, 45 yards
- Mike Williams – 3 rec, 30 yards
- Zero Chargers sacks
Another week, another loss predicted by Madden. Madden seems to either think the Chiefs are worse than the majority of the population or they just really like upsets.
Could the Chiefs lose this game? Probably. But can the Chargers beat the Chiefs by 18 with Patrick Mahomes in the game? I don’t think so. This season is almost over now, but Madden has to fix this for next year.
The Chargers did hold Mahomes to under 200 yards passing the last meeting, but there’s probably less of a chance of Mahomes throwing for under 200 yards again than there is for the Dolphins to beat the Patriots this week.
There’s also a very slim chance that the Chiefs defense gives up 31 points, especially when the offense isn’t forcing the game into a high scoring shoot out type of game. The Chiefs defense has been very effective as of late, not allowing a touchdown in two straight games and giving up less than eight points per game over the last four contests.
Another interesting prediction from the sim was the zero sacks for the Chargers. The last Chiefs vs Chargers sim predicted no sacks for either team and they are again predicting zero sacks for the Chargers. It would be very interesting for Suggs to come away with the game’s only sack in his first home game as a Chief.
Perhaps Madden made this prediction because they thought the Chiefs might pull their starters at a certain point. I’m not sure what the video game was thinking, but hopefully their sims for the 2020 season are more realistic. The Chiefs haven’t been blown out in over three years and I don’t see the Chargers doing so to them.

The 2019 season has been a blur and the final regular season game is here. It is a fairly big game for the Kansas City Chiefs and their playoff position.
It’s always nice to beat the Chargers so come out Sunday and support your Chiefs for the 2019 regular-season finale!
