ALL-DECADE TEAM FOR 2010S

FIRST BASE – ERIC HOSMER

  • 4x Gold Glove
  • 1x All-Star
  • 2016 All-Star Game MVP

How can we not put a guy who convinced teammates to run a $20,000 tab at McFadden’s for Royals fans on the All-Decade team? Eric Hosmer most definitely deserves a shoutout here for everything he did for the Royals during his time in Kansas City.

Hoz simply became the face of the franchise during their championship runs. He was the 2016 All-Star MVP and won four Gold Gloves as a Royal. His mad dash and dive into home tied game five of the 2015 World Series highlighted the game that brought Royals their first championship since 1985.

Hosmer slashed .284/.342/.439 during his seven year career with the team who drafted him and while he didn’t finish his career with the Kansas City Royals, we’ll all remember him fondly.

SECOND BASE – WHIT MERRIFIELD

  • 1x All-Star

Whit Merrifield was good at being a star when the Royals didn’t have many. “Two Hit Whit” did nothing more than simply hit the ball all over the field, and did it well, as hed the league in consecutive seasons in hits in both 2018 and 2019. The 2019 season saw Merrifield get 206 hits, only the seventh Royal in history to accomplish this feat.

Merrifield is considered a utility player because of his ability to play just about any position on the field. He played the majority of his games at second so we will place him on our team at that position, knowing full well he could play any position for the Royals if the all-decade team needed him to.

Merrifield had a very impressive slash line of .296/.344/.445 from 2016-2019, proving himself as one of the best Royals position players of the 2010s.
