RANKING EVERY ROYALS SEASON FROM 2010-2019

NUMBER 8: 2010

  • Record: 67-95

The 2010s didn’t start off well for the Royals, as their then-manager Trey Hillman was relieved of his managerial duties on May 13th after recording just 12 wins. He was replaced by Ned Yost, who ended up coaching the Royals for the rest of the decade.

The 2010 season was when Alex Gordon was sent back to the minor leagues after failing to live up to the hype as the second overall pick. He was sent to AAA to learn a new position and we all know what happened next for Gordon.

Four players in the Royals starting lineup hit over .300 on the year: Billy Butler (.318), Mike Aviles (.304), Scott Podsednik (.310), and David DeJesus (.318) though two of them appeared in less than 100 games.

The Royals had one All-Star representative in 2010, Joakim Soria, who nailed down 43 saves and had an ERA of 1.78. He was far and away the best pitcher on the team and one of the few highlights in 2010.

While the Royals didn’t hit 100 losses in 2010 and gained their long-time manager early on, the 2010 season still sits as the third-worst season of the decade.
