KC Chiefs: What we learned about each team in AFC West after week 16
WHAT DID WE LEARN ABOUT THE RAIDERS?
Somehow, someway the Oakland Raiders are still mathematically alive in the playoff hunt. The Raiders winning on Sunday (which they did 24-17 over the Chargers) was one of four things that had to happen on Sunday and it did, keeping their playoff chances alive.
It’s crazy to see how quickly things change with Raiders fans. Last week, they were having nachos thrown at them while being booed off the field and this week, the fans filled up the Chargers’ stadium and made it a Raiders home game. Maybe that could count as the final game in the Black Hole? Just a thought.
Anyway, despite getting sacked three times, Derek Carr had a nice game, throwing for 291 yards and a touchdown. The Raiders offense played well even without Josh Jacobs leading the way in the run game for them. DeAndre Washington ended up rushing for 85 yards and a touchdown in Jacobs’ absence.
Rookie Hunter Renfrow has been a nice pick for Oakland, grabbing seven receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown against the Chargers. The Raiders needed a receiver to step up this year and Renfrow has been a go-to guy for Carr in 2019.
The defense shut down the Chargers rushing attack (or lack thereof), but didn’t force any turnovers. That’s one thing they could definitely improve on.
While it seems bleak, the Raiders still are mathematically alive when it comes to the postseason. For them to make it, they have to beat the Broncos in Denver next week and need some other dominos to fall their way as well. Can they pull it off?
