KC Chiefs: What we learned about each team in AFC West after week 16
The KC Chiefs continue their quest toward earning a bye week in the playoffs and we’ll know for sure whether or not that happens by this time next week. What else did we learn about the AFC West in week 16?
One more week remains in the 2019 regular season and by now, we’re all well-aware that the Kansas City Chiefs are the class of the AFC West. That being said, all four teams played games this weekend and all but one came out victorious.
Let’s start our weekly AFC West roundup by examining the lone AFC West team to lose over the weekend.
WHAT DID WE LEARN ABOUT THE CHARGERS?
What an embarrassing game for the Chargers. Not only did they lose to the Raiders, but their “home” stadium was a faux home game for the Raiders and their fans. The Chargers had to move to a silent snap count due to the noise that the OPPOSING fans were making. That’s really sad.
The game itself wasn’t much better for the Bolts and even though the score looked close (24-17), it never felt like LA had much of a chance in this one. Injuries have decimated this team once again and after going 12-4 last year and nearly taking the division from Kansas City, the Chargers more than likely will finish the year at 5-11. What a disappointment.
They were really bad in this game, but especially when trying to run the ball. The run game finished with just 19 yards rushing on the afternoon. That’s right… NINETEEN YARDS RUSHING. Don’t be shocked if the Chargers opt to draft a running back early on in next year’s draft because Melvin Gordon hasn’t been a difference maker this season.
Philip Rivers finally didn’t throw any interceptions, but he didn’t throw any touchdowns either. He finished the day with 279 yards passing and was only sacked once.
The defense had three sacks, but allowed the Raiders to put up numbers offensively. Melvin Ingram had 1.5 sacks on the day while rookie Jerry Tillery got in on the action as well with half a sack. Good for him.
The Chargers close out their 2019 season with a date at Arrowhead against the Chiefs in what very well could be Rivers’ last game as a Charger.
