It’s time for a KC Chiefs Super Bowl run. Here’s why this is the best chance the franchise has at winning a Super Bowl in many of our lifetimes.

Growing up in a Kansas City suburb was demoralizing as a child. The best player many had seen in a KC Chiefs uniform was Priest Holmes and while Kansas City kids grew up with his jersey on their backs, there was no recollection of history, pride, or winning.

Most memories that Chiefs fans still hold are Trent Green‘s head nailing the turf against the Bengals in ’06 or a Brodie Croyle bullet into an opposing linebacker’s numbers. Though few and far between, there were good times with Tony Gonzalez touchdown dunks, Derrick Thomas hits, and Nigerian Nightmare trucks.

However, recent memory shows just how putrid the Chiefs were for a long while, and at most points mediocre, which is arguably worse. In fact, Kansas City failed to reach double-digit wins every year except one from 1998 to 2009.

Andy Reid‘s tenure has been much different since he took over in 2013, with this year marking the sixth time in seven years in which he’s reached double-digit wins. Reid has brought his playoff cloud with him and last year was the Chiefs’ best run, losing to New England in the AFC Championship game.

This time last year, Chiefs fans were promising the playoffs would be different with an MVP leading the charge. Though many are still singing that same tune, this year is their best shot at being right.

Heading into week 16, Kansas City sits at 10-4, having clinched the division already and with hopes of snatching the two-seed from the Patriots. While home field advantage would be nice for the Chiefs in the playoffs, it’s obviously not essential. They are 5-1 on the road this year with a win in Foxborough.

In fact, Baltimore, Seattle, San Francisco, Buffalo, and New Orleans are all better away than at home this season. This bodes well for the Chiefs, assuming New England still captures the two-seed and Baltimore the one-seed. While a first-round bye would be amazing, it didn’t do the Chiefs any favors last year.

As it stands currently, the Pittsburgh Steelers would be coming to Arrowhead in round one. A lot could change in the next two weeks, but this would be a mouth-watering matchup for the Chiefs. There should be virtually no way that Duck Hodges will come into Kansas City and keep up with the high-powered offense.

This could be the kiss of death, but a game against Pittsburgh in round one should be a lock for the Chiefs.
