Kansas City Chiefs: NFL playoff picture after week 15 of 2019

The Kansas City Chiefs won yet again in week 15, but the problem is that so did the two teams ahead of them in the playoff standings. How do the playoff seedings look after week 15?
The Kansas City Chiefs knocked off the Broncos in convincing fashion on Sunday to move to 10-4 on the year and notch double digit wins for the fifth straight season. Winning is obviously important, but fans need to hope that the Ravens and Patriots lose at least one more game because as of now, the Chiefs are the three seed.
Let’s take a look at the playoff picture in the AFC after the most recent week of NFL action.
- Baltimore Ravens (12-2) – BYE
- New England Patriots (11-3) – BYE
- Kansas City Chiefs (10-4)
- Houston Texans (9-5)
- Buffalo Bills (10-4)
- Pittsburgh Steelers (8-6)
IN THE HUNT: TITANS (8-6)
Unless Baltimore drops their final two games, the Chiefs will not be getting home field advantage this year. In order for them to get the two seed, they have to win out and hope that the Patriots lose one of their final two games.
If the season ended today, Kansas City would host the Steelers in a match-up that ESPN says could be tough for the Chiefs. Meanwhile, the Texans would host the Bills and it wouldn’t be crazy to see Buffalo go in there and win that game. Their defense is legit.
The Titans losing to Houston last weekend cost them big because now they HAVE to win out. Otherwise, no playoffs for Tennessee and that’d be a shame considering how hot they were for a stretch there.
This weekend will see the Ravens travel to Cleveland in hopes of beating one of the two teams who handed them a loss this year. Meanwhile, the Patriots host the Bills on Saturday in what should be a competitive game, the Chiefs travel to Chicago for a date with the Bears, the Texans play the Bucs in Tampa Bay and the Steelers face the Jets on the road.
Now, let’s check out the playoff picture in the NFC.
- Seattle Seahawks (11-3) – BYE
- Green Bay Packers (11-3) – BYE
- New Orleans Saints (11-3)
- Dallas Cowboys (7-7)
- San Francisco 49ers (11-3)
- Minnesota Vikings (10-4)
IN THE HUNT: RAMS (8-6), EAGLES (7-7)
The NFC is confusing to me, as the Saints beat the Seahawks already, so you’d think they’d have home field over Seattle. Because there’s a three-way tie, the league goes by conference record, so Seattle gets that top spot, followed by Green Bay.
NFC Wild Card weekend would see the Saints hosting the Vikings and the .500 Cowboys hosting the 49ers. San Francisco controls their own destiny though, so they might not have to play on Wild Card weekend if they can win their final two games, but losing to Atlanta didn’t help their case at all.
In week 16, the Seahawks host the Cardinals, the Packers head to Minnesota for a Monday night match-up, the Saints travel to Tennessee, the Cowboys play the Eagles in Philly, and the Niners host the Rams on Saturday night. All of those games are important at this point in the season.
