KC Chiefs: Winners and losers from week 15 victory vs Broncos
WINNER: PATRICK MAHOMES
After some not so great performances, Patrick Mahomes rebounded beautifully in week 15. One would think with how hard it was snowing out there that Mahomes might not have been as effective on Sunday, but he shattered those myths early on, throwing for 340 yards and two touchdowns while also throwing a pick.
Mahomes looked sharp on Sunday and it was as good as he’s looked since the week ten loss to the Titans where he threw for over 400 yards. The offensive line did him no favors, but fortunately the Broncos defense had little answers for him, and even the one interception they had, was a crafty one by Justin Simmons.
It was nice to see the reigning MVP show some of that magic once again after a few meh performances.
WINNER: DEFENSE
The defense is becoming a strength for the Kansas City Chiefs. Some might argue that they’ve played bad offenses over the last few weeks, but I disagree. The Patriots are still the Patriots and the Broncos had been cooking offensively yet the Chiefs made both look bad.
Tyrann Mathieu has been an incredible acquisition for this team and should have had his fourth interception on the year. A penalty wiped that out, but what the Honey Badger has done for this defense in just a few short months has been incredible. He also had a sack on the day.
Rookie Juan Thornhill has been playing tremendous as well, hauling in a pick and continuing to grow as a legitimate force to be reckoned with in this defense. That hit he had midway through the game was rough, but the rookie was back in and playing solid football even after that collision.
Overall, the Chiefs defense limited rookie quarterback Drew Lock to 208 yards passing while picking him off once and sacking him twice. More importantly, they surrendered just 52 yards rushing to the Broncos.
Frank Clark and Chris Jones made Lock’s life a living hell, hitting him a total of five times and Alex Okafor got in on the action with a big sack.
Everything is clicking for this defense, but we all want to see it when it matters most. Can they sustain this level of play?
