The KC Chiefs are barreling toward postseason football with a roster that is relatively healthy and rounding into form at just the right time. Both sides of the ball have enough talent to really make some noise in the playoffs.

While the Kansas City Chiefs have enough talent to get them to the Super Bowl this year, it’s still intriguing to look forward to what the next wave of free agency has in store.

The Chiefs currently have 24 players that are slated for free agency in 2020.

Some of the names reside at the bottom of the depth chart, which may cause them to be looking for a new home when free agency begins. Others, though, are absolutely worth keeping around; Defensive lineman Chris Jones may very well be the best example of a player that the Chiefs must keep around long-term.

Other names like Emmanuel Ogbah, Mike Pennel, Reggie Ragland, and Kendall Fuller should be bigger considerations when planning for next year’s team. With more of the talented free agent names falling on the defensive side of the ball, general manager Brett Veach will have his work cut out for himself this offseason.

To build on what the Chiefs’ defense has done so far this season, the Chiefs will have to work harder to not allow the progress to slip.

Because the Chiefs have spent 2019 rebuilding their defense and finding stability, Veach’s task becomes even more of a juggling act; Lose too many players from this year’s roster and the Chiefs will essentially be rebuilding again; Re-sign some key names and that defensive stability becomes more likely to happen.

There will also be some free agent names cut lose from other teams that the Chiefs should keep their eyes on.

Looking toward 2020, let’s take a look at who the KC Chiefs should work to retain, who they should let walk, and who they should try to bring in to bolster their roster.
