Another week of NFL action is in the books, so let’s see how the playoff standings look after week 14! Did the Kansas City Chiefs move at all in the standings?

After knocking off the defending champions on their home turf, the Kansas City Chiefs did indeed move in this week’s AFC playoff standings. Here’s how the AFC side of things look after a riveting week 14 of action:

  1. Baltimore Ravens (11-2) – BYE
  2. New England Patriots (10-3) – BYE
  3. Kansas City Chiefs (9-4)
  4. Houston Texans (8-5)
  5. Buffalo Bills (9-4)
  6. Pittsburgh Steelers (8-5)

IN THE HUNT: TITANS (8-5)

The Chiefs were able to leapfrog the Texans after KC won their game and Houston was blown out by the Broncos. As long as the Chiefs can stay one game up on the Texans, they’ll edge them out for the three seed. If the two have the same records though, Houston has the advantage due to winning the week six battle at Arrowhead.

If the season ended today, the Chiefs would host the surprisingly good Steelers while Houston would host the Bills. After that, if the seeds played out, KC would travel back to Foxborough while the Texans would head to Baltimore.

It’s not looking good for Kansas City to get the one seed at all, but they’re still in play for the two seed. They’d need to win out and have the Patriots lose at least one game. With New England’s remaining schedule, however, that doesn’t seem likely.

Speaking of schedule, this week the Ravens host the Jets on Thursday night, the Patriots travel to Cincinnati, the Chiefs host the Broncos, the Texans travel to Tennessee for a HUGE game, and the two current Wild Card teams will battle on Sunday Night Football in Pittsburgh.

That Texans/Titans game is spicy and I’m excited to watch that one because Tennessee looks to be for real. Can they get themselves in the playoff picture? Their best hope will be to win the division, which is looking like a real possibility.

As for the NFC, we had some huge movement there. Let’s take a look at the standings:

  1. San Francisco 49ers (11-2) – BYE
  2. Green Bay Packers (10-3) – BYE
  3. New Orleans Saints (10-3)
  4. Dallas Cowboys (6-7)
  5. Seattle Seahawks (10-3)
  6. Minnesota Vikings (9-4)

IN THE HUNT: RAMS (8-5), BEARS (7-6)

The NFC has opened up a little more recently with the suddenly resurgent Rams, but more than likely, it’ll be those six teams in the postseason. The Saints’ loss to San Francisco cost them big, as they went from being the number one overall seed to now having to play on Wild Card weekend.

The 49ers can win out and they’ll clinch that number one seed. Seattle’s loss on Sunday night proved costly, as they’ll now likely be playing on Wild Card weekend and on the road at that. Unfair, but they had the division right in front of them and tripped up in a pivotal moment.

This week, the 49ers host the Falcons, the Packers host the Bears, the Saints host the Colts, the Cowboys host the Rams, the Seahawks travel to Carolina, and the Vikings travel to Los Angeles to play the Chargers. There are plenty of good games in there!

Getting back to the AFC side of things though, the Kansas City Chiefs still have a chance to move up, but they’ll need the Patriots to lose one more game. KC also has to win out, which could certainly happen due to their lighter schedule, but nothing is certain in the NFL.

Will the Chiefs be the three seed when the regular season concludes?
