MVP CANDIDATES

Number 3 – Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers

Green Bay lit up the laughable Giants on Sunday, furthering Rodgers’ MVP run. The Packers are in control of the NFC North after a Vikings loss on Monday night. As long as the Packers are winning, Rodgers will be the reason why.

In the snow, he put up big numbers once again in East Rutherford. While the Packers are playing well, they still need to win a few more games to secure home field for a playoff game. That should keep Rodgers motivated.

The Case For

In a stacked NFC, Rodgers remains a sneaky threat, something we’ve probably never said about him. The Packers are present, but not exactly being put up there with Seattle, San Francisco, and New Orleans.

With a pretty weak schedule left and one important game against the Vikings a few days before Christmas, Rodgers has a chance to grab a top-two seed. If he can do that, he’ll be more than in the conversation. He’s put up great numbers this year, adding to it last week with a QBR of 125.4 and 4 more passing touchdowns.

The Case Against

The resumé is just not as impressive as some other guys. They lost badly to the 49ers, laid an two eggs against the Chargers and Eagles, and their biggest win is maybe against the Matt Moore-led Chiefs. Though the Vikings game will be important, he may not have enough big games down the stretch to sway voters.

The Packers may go into the playoffs as somewhat of a mystery, and while Aaron Rodgers is enough to be afraid of, there’s still much to be desired from this team. Rodgers is the old man in the league now and he’s had his chances at an MVP. This may not be the year for another.

MVP Moment:

Week 7 vs. the Raiders – 25/31, 429 yards, 5 touchdowns, win.

“Did he just do that?” Play:

Week 8 touchdown throw to Jamaal Williams in the back of the endzone.
