Sit of the Week – DavidMontgomery, RB, Chicago Bears

David Montgomery. 32. player. 57. . Running Back. Chicago Bears

David Montgomery had a fine week against the Lions last week, but like much of the year, it was due to volume and he needed a touchdown to produce.

Montgomery was a huge fantasy sleeper coming into the year to the point where he was probably being overdrafted. Just like Chicago’s offense, he has really struggled this year. Montgomery is averaging just 3.5 yards per carry and it hasn’t been for a lack of volume.

When looking for a fantasy star, we look for volume, production, talent, and opportunity. Montgomery, for whatever reason, has had the opportunity but not the production.

Blame it on Matt Nagy’s extremely weird offense where Tarik Cohen runs it up the middle on third and short if you want, but the fact of the matter is Montgomery has had two very good games this year and that’s it.

Week 8 and 9 is where Montgomery blossomed, but it was because he had three rushing touchdowns combined those two weeks. He’s been mediocre on the ground this year and hasn’t caught more than four passes in a game yet.

The Cowboys have a middle-of-the-pack run defense, but this is a bet on Montgomery failing to impact the game once again. He’s just too risky to play this week, and if the Bears get down early, Cohen will get many more touches.

If you’re desperate, look to Rashaad Penny as a potential plug and play against a up and down Rams team.
