KC Chiefs: Way too early look at potential tight ends in 2020 NFL Draft
By John McCarty
CHEYENNE O’GRADY – ARKANSAS
Troubled tight end Cheyenne O’Grady – or CJ O’Grady – has all the tools to be an NFL prospect if he can walk the straight and narrow. Multiple suspensions have must certainly darkened his NFL opportunities.
O’Grady is an interesting prospect for sure. On tape, you see a player that has a spot in the NFL. Not nearly the dynamic runner and athlete as perhaps other prospects listed here, O’Grady combines size with strength and quickness.
Strong hands and great body control, watching O’Grady is like watching an on older version of Tony Gonzalez; Go up the field, box out the defender, completion, first down, touchdown.
The big thing with O’Grady, however, is that he has issues galore concerning his background and he will need to be heavily vetted if he’s going to be drafted. He has been suspended multiple times, and his senior season at Arkansas was cut short due to suspension.
Seriously, Google “Cheyenne O’Grady suspension” and there will be multiple options for you to read about. Arguably the most serious was being an arrest for DUI as a freshman. Yikes.
O’Grady is a powerful but not overly dynamic tight end that makes a living and is better in the NFL than in college. Whatever the reasons for the suspensions, they are a huge concern and could possibly cause O’Grady to go undrafted.
I included him because Travis Kelce had red flags in his scouting report, including losing an entire season to suspension while at Cincinnati. That caused him to plummet to the third round and things have been mostly fine while he’s been a Chief.
The Chiefs have been willing to look into and draft troubled players before, would they look here?
