BRYCEN HOPKINS – PURDUE

Potentially the top tight end in the draft, Brycen Hopkins is an intriguing blend of size and athleticism. Early in the process, he certainly appears to be the top tight end prospect for the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft.

A fluid athlete with good size, Hopkins is a threat in the open field with the football, but also a willing blocker in both the passing and run games for the Boilermakers.

True of many tight end prospects, Hopkins needs to get stronger to better hold up at the point of attack as well as ability in the blocking game. The fifth year senior certainly appears to be both the most polished player at his position in the draft and the most ready to at least contribute immediately.

My big concern is about his capability to put much more weight on. A slim body is a concern about adding more ‘girth’ for blocking and holding up. A fairly simply pass route scheme as he either ran a few routes out of the inline tight end spot or basically ran straight up the field when split out.

Hopkins is likely the best tight end in the class and is a candidate to be a first round pick, though in my opinion will likely hear his name called in the first ten picks in round two. He is certainly a capable tight end and a threat to pick up chunk yards with the ball in his hands.

For draftniks out there, Hopkins has accepted an invitation to participate at the Senior Bowl during the postseason draft evaluation process.
