The KC Chiefs will likely look to add a wide receiver in the draft as their roster prepares for an overhaul. Who are some potential candidates to become a Chief on draft weekend?

Quick! What position group doesn’t face questions this offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs? If you answered none of them, you would be correct. Specifically here, we look at wide receiver.

Free agency looms for Chiefs third receiver Demarcus Robinson and free agent “bust” Sammy Watkins is due a massive cap number in 2020 ($21 million) and will not be back. This means the Chiefs wide receivers currently under contract for next season are Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman and Byron Pringle.

For a team that wants to move the ball via the pass and needs multiple options, wide receiver truly is a position of need. Here I take a look at a few options who could be options for the Chiefs at different spots in the draft next year.

TEE HIGGINS – CLEMSON

If the Chiefs were to target Tee Higgins, it likely would require a selection in the first round. Is Higgins worth that and would it make sense for the Chiefs?

Yes.

I’m not saying they will or even should, but Higgins specifically offers a few traits no other receiver currently projected to be on the roster next year currently posses in that he has size, strong hands and solid athleticism.

Higgins would easily be the tallest receiver on the roster at 6’4″ with a big body weighing in at 216 pounds. For a roster complete, at least in the top two of fast guys, Higgins has the ability to work the middle of the field, but also posses enough quickness to work deep routes for the offense.

Is he as fast as Hardman or Hill? No, but he’s fast enough. Perhaps the biggest concern is how much of his production is the result of playing in an offense loaded with playmakers?

The Chiefs have shown they are big fans of speed, potentially more than anything else. Does that turn them off of Higgins if they are looking at receivers? Hopefully not, as a trio of Hill, Hardman and Higgins would be a powerful trio and I’m sure someone would, if not already, do something with a Triple H nickname.

No? Maybe? Who knows.
