Chiefs backup quarterback Matt Moore will start in place for Patrick Mahomes.

Coming out of Oregon State in 2007, Matt Moore is now on his fourth team since playing with Dallas, Carolina, and Miami in years prior. During his NFL career, Moore has played in 51 games and started 30 of them.

After the sudden ankle injury to Chiefs prior backup Chad Henne, Brett Veach and Andy Reid stuck with their usual trend of bringing in a veteran presence to have in the quarterback room. Moore had not taken a single regular season snap since October 22, 2017 where he came in for an injured Jay Cutler and led the Miami Dolphins to a 31-28 victory over the New York Jets.

During his career, Moore has been just an average quarterback for the team he has played for and considered a lifetime backup. Throwing for over 7,000 yards over his time in the NFL, Moore have averaged just over 135 pass yards in the 51 games he has played in. He has thrown for 46 touchdowns and 36 interceptions.

While most fans are dreading to see Moore under center in place for Mahomes, Chiefs fans will need to come down to Earth with expectations of this team over the next few weeks and expect to see head coach Andy Reid game plan to Matt Moore’s strengths.

Anticipate the Chiefs to revert back to the Alex Smith style of offense for Moore and with the multiple weapons around him, it shouldn’t be as much of a task for him to succeed.
